For The Uninitated: What Is A Car Fuel Cell ?
This is no easy thing to explain, but I will try and keep it useful. When we talk about “car fuel cells“, it’s important to know that there are many types being researched as I write this. What most of them have in common are their sources of energy and their chemical by-products. In the process of converting hydrogen and oxygen in to water, electricity is formed and used to fuel the car. No fuss and no mess, unlike traditional fossil fuel by-products.
As you can imagine, this new energy initiative has researchers, both public and private, scrambling for the available funds and for claiming patent rights to new ideas and products. Some of the biggest worries for research and development folks are the inconsistent and poor history of funding by the federal government and the private sector. As a country, we have been at this spot at least once before. When we perceive the crisis to be over and there is more oil to be gotten, we discontinue funding cleaner and more environmentally healthy initiatives. Nobody wants a repeat of this scenario.
We are a world of very gifted and talented people. We need to care for each other in real and measurable ways. Consistent financing for this energy initiative is one way to show our concern for others. It will also make the world a cleaner and safer place to live.
